Lady P
Queen Mother Emeritus
A resident of Conyers, Georgia since 2013, Lady P was very involved in the leather community during her nearly 20 years in Washington D.C. It is within the leather community that she became known as Mama Bear. In 2008 she formed a 501c3 certified non profit organization for LGBTQIA+ causes and called it Mama Bear Charities, Inc. After becoming a member of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., the drag persona Sister Penne Kostal was born.
Miss Kostal performed with the GMCW a couple of times and many times at clubs in the D.C. metropolitan area.
After a move to Atlanta, Georgia, Miss Kostal became a member of the Atlanta Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and served one year as Abbess for the House. In 2018 she purchased a restaurant in Atlanta and due to the business left the Sisters. The restaurant closed in 2020 due to the pandemic and was not able to reopen.
Being in active retirement she discovered that the Crown Magnolia Court of Georgia was being founded and was fortunate to be asked to serve on the newly established and developing Board of Directors. And thus Sister Penne Kostal came to be known as Lady P.
Bobby Stallings aka Pearl La’Kesha Long (1960-2024)
“Pearl” got her name while attending the University of Georgia from where she graduated in 1982 and had pledged to the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. It was here that she and her gay fraternity brothers started calling each other by their mother’s names and so Pearl La’kesha Long was then born. Not long after graduating Pearl became an active member of Atlanta’s LGBTQIA+ community. She joined a gay bowling league and competed in the Miss Dixie Bowling pageant soon after where she placed as first runner up in this competition.
In 1993 Pearl joined the Hotlanta Softball League. By the fall of that year she became a member of the Armorettes which is the largest camp drag troupe in the Southeast. This organization recently celebrated their 45th anniversary of raising funds for the local LGBTQIA+ community in Atlanta. And it was through the Armorettes that she first met her best friend and husband, fellow Armorette entertainer Vivian Valium. In 2003 Pearl suffered a debilitating stroke that took her 3 grueling months to recover from.
In 2020 Pearl was introduced to the Crown Magnolia Court of Georgia by her husband and encouraged to join. She continued to perform through the Court and for the community to help raise funds for charities supported by this incredible organization until the last of several more strokes severely compromised her health and eventually ended her life. Pearl was 63 years young at the time of her passing.
Pearl held the titles of Baroness of Augusta (Reign I), Viscountess of Augusta (Reign II) and was most recently appointed Grand Duchess of the Crown Magnolia Court of Georgia (Reign III).
She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for her tireless work as an LGBTQIA+ activist, undeniable spirit of generosity and all the contributions she’s made on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ community.
